    GE and Hyundai Electric Bringing Haliade-X Offshore Wind Turbine to South Korea

    GE Renewable Energy and Hyundai Electric & Energy Systems are planning to establish a strategic industrial partnership to support the growth of offshore wind in South Korea.

    The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to form the strategic offshore wind partnership in South Korea on Wednesday, 16 February.

    South Korea has set a goal of scaling up its offshore wind capacity to up to 12 GW by 2030 and achieving 30 per cent of renewables in the energy production mix by the end of the decade.

    ”The companies’ strengths complement each other, and both will bring our unique expertise to support the development and installation of the 12 GW of offshore wind forecasted to be built in South Korea by 2030,” Jan Kjaersgaard, CEO of Offshore Wind at GE Renewable Energy said in a social media post.

    Kjaersgaard added that GE Renewable Energy will bring its offshore expertise and the Haliade-X wind turbine technology to the mix, with Hyundai Electric bringing its local expertise and electrical equipment.
