Extreme E and ENOWA have announced that 80% of the power produced during the Hydro X Prix was achieved using hydrogen fuel cells.

Held in Scotland over the weekend, ENOWA provided 700kg of green hydrogen and Kaizen Clean Energy supplied the fuel cell technology. The race site was able to use the 11MWh produced to support charging, catering and event control power.
Across its last four X Prix, Extreme E has produced 25MWh with green hydrogen fuel cells and plans to increase energy production at its upcoming races in Sardinia.
Ali Russel, Managing Director of Extreme E explained that the 11MWh produced across the Hydro X Prix is “equivalent to the energy required to power 1,000 homes in the UK.”
Russel added, “Our vision is always to bring technology to the forefront that can make a dramatic shift in how we approach sustainability to improve the planet, and Extreme E has always been a pioneer in developing innovative solutions to combat the climate crisis.”
Last year, Extreme E revealed plans for an all-hydrogen off-road racing series beginning in 2025. After agreeing on the championship with the Fédération Internationale l’Automobile (FIA), Extreme E CEO, Alejandro Agag told H2 View that Extreme H will “demonstrate that hydrogen is a viable technology for the future, and also for racing.”
During the race held in Scotland, the hydrogen-powered Pioneer 25 was unveiled by Extreme H – a Spark Racing Technology-designed vehicle powered by a 400kW Symbio fuel cell.
