DNP doubles production capacity of encapsulants for solar cells

Dai Nippon Printing (DNP) announced on August 6 that it will double the production capacity of encapsulants that protect electrodes and solar cells (power-generating components) at its Izumizaki plant in Izumizaki Village, Fukushima Prefecture, from 2023. The investment will be around 3 billion yen and the plant is expected to start operations by the end of 2025.

DNP has been producing encapsulants for solar cells at its Izumizaki Plant since 2005. This time, the company will increase production capacity to meet the growing demand for solar cells globally. In recent years, the global solar cell market has been growing at an average annual rate of 10 to 20 percent, and by 2030, the world's cumulative installed capacity is expected to reach 5.5 TW, of which solar power generation accounts for about 12 percent of total solar power generation. power demand

Solar cell encapsulants are sheet-like materials that protect the electrodes and cells inside the solar cell, while preventing damage from external environments such as moisture, dust, oxygen, and ultraviolet rays. DNP provides olefin plastic encapsulants for solar cells with high conversion efficiency.

Olefin plastic encapsulators produced by DNP have been highly regarded for their high quality, including barrier properties and long-term reliability. Olefin is also an environmentally friendly material, producing virtually no toxic gases when burned.

In addition to expanding this facility, DNP will continue to develop products for peripheral components such as "DNP Reflector for Solar Power Plants", aiming for annual sales of 20 billion yen in fiscal 2027 in the solar cell-related components business.
