Japan Radio invests in Drone Shinko Targeting demand for inspections of mountains and rivers

Japan Radio has invested in drone development startup Aerosense (Tokyo, Bunkyo). Combined with the University of Tokyo Co-Creation Platform Development (University of Tokyo IPC, Bunkyo, Tokyo), an investment company of the University of Tokyo, and Innovation Engine (Minato, Tokyo), a venture capital (VC), the total investment amount is 350 million yen. Combining Japan Radio's communication technology and Aerosense's drone, we will develop a technology that can control the aircraft even if it is flown to a long distance. Aiming at demand for inspection and surveying of places such as mountainous areas and rivers where drones could not fly until now.

Aerosense was established in 2015 by Sony (now Sony Group) as a joint venture with robot developer ZMP (Bunkyo, Tokyo). We are working on a drone with a maximum cruising range of 50 kilometers.

Currently, drones can only be controlled within the range of radio waves from mobile base stations. Using Japan Radio's communication technology, it will be possible to control even if it flies outside the range. It is assumed that the development of communication equipment to be mounted on the aircraft.
