Norwegian Hydrogen has established a new subsidiary, Vireon, to lead the deployment of hydrogen refueling stations in the Nordic region.
The subsidiary, led by CEO Per Øyvind Voie, aims to be the largest operator of hydrogen refueling stations for heavy transport in the region.
The first refueling station in Norway is expected to be ready this year, with hydrogen gas supplied by Norwegian Hydrogen.
The company has also received funding to build its first refueling stations in Sweden and Finland with another station in Denmark to be announced as well.
“In order to phase out today’s fossil fuel trucks, we have to build more hydrogen refueling stations,” says Voie. We will supply hydrogen for heavy-duty vehicles and ensure reduced emissions, in close cooperation with both operators and authorities.
“We have proven that we have business intent by investing in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. We want to speed things up and quickly turn hydrogen into a full-fledged alternative to heavy transport.”
Earlier this year, the company acquired Finland-based hydrogen refueling company HydRe Oy for an undisclosed price.
With HydRe's facilities in the Baltics and Norwegian Hydrogen's projects in Sweden, Denmark and Norway, hydRe will be the leading supplier of hydrogen fuel for heavy vehicles in Northern Europe.
The company also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with H2X Global to cooperate in the commercial supply of hydrogen and a variety of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
The partnership focuses on the Nordic region, where the companies will develop a common framework for fleet operators at nearby Norwegian Hydrogen sites. It also intends to provide the production and purchase of hydrogen, delivery and green hydrogen refueling stations, and to provide customers with the delivery and after-sales of vehicles.
Voie will speak at H2 View's upcoming Ecosystem and Renewable Energy Summit on April 24, discussing the green hydrogen ecosystem.
