RECONSTRUCTION AGENCY/F-REI OUTLINES THE BASIC PLAN FOR THIS FACILITY, COVERING VARIOUS RESEARCH AREAS AND FOCUSING ON DISASTER PREVENTION AND MITIGATION

The Reconstruction Authority held a meeting with experts in Tokyo on October 31 and presented the basic plan outline for developing the Fukushima Education and Research Institute (F-REI) facility in Tokyo. Namie town, Fukushima prefecture. In addition to having specifications that can be applied to a variety of research topics, we will focus on considering the surrounding environment and landscape as well as sustainability. We also focus on disaster prevention and mitigation measures, and establish appropriate seismic performance according to each building's function. Incorporate flood protection measures for embankments and buildings to both address flood risk and ensure continuity within the area.

The outline was presented the same day at a consultation meeting held in Tokyo on the status of the facilities of the Fukushima International Education and Research Foundation (chaired by Takeshi Ueno, professor emeritus at Chiba University). maintenance).

"Research Support Area 1 (headquarters/collaborative function)" is located on the east side of the site, a collection of functions expected to be used by an unknown number of people. It will contain headquarters facilities, library and information facilities, lecture halls, conference halls, etc. To create a comfortable space where people want to walk, we will actively carry out greening and ensure safety by separating pedestrians and vehicles. The north side of the site will be designated as ``Research Support Area 2 (researcher accommodation function)'', where short-term accommodation facilities will be arranged for researchers to stay . Research and testing facilities will be concentrated in the center, west and south of the region.

To encourage exchange and collaboration with the outside world and across disciplines, we will introduce partitioning and hierarchy structures while also considering the protection of research content. In order to contribute to natural disaster prevention in the region, consider establishing temporary evacuation locations when natural disasters occur. To ensure the environment and sustainability, reusable materials were used in the construction of this facility. Considering the function and characteristics of this facility as a research facility as well as the construction period, we will endeavor to transform it into a wooden structure and interior.

The proposed construction site is the Kawazoe area, located west of JR Namie station in Namie town, Fukushima Prefecture. We aim to complete construction as soon as possible within the time the Reconstruction Authority is established (by March 31, 2031).
