Energy Agency Approves Evaluation Criteria for Literature Survey / NUMO to Report by Fall

　On the 22nd, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) compiled evaluation criteria for the preparation of a report on a literature survey being carried out by two local governments in Hokkaido as the first step in selecting a geological disposal site for high-level radioactive waste. . At the meeting of experts held on the same day, most of the draft standards based on the discussions so far were approved. In the future, a formal decision will be made after soliciting opinions (public comments), and the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NUMO), which is the research body, will create a "literature survey report" in line with the evaluation criteria. After reporting to the two municipalities, the next stage of the literature survey, the selection of candidates for the "general survey area" will proceed.
