On January 31, Takuya Imayoshi, director and senior managing executive officer who will become Komatsu's president and CEO on April 1, and Hiroyuki Ogawa, president and CEO, held a press conference at the Imperial Hotel in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. Imayoshi explained the management policy after taking up the position. "Technological development for automation and remote control (of construction machinery) will progress at a faster pace. Komatsu will continue to focus on technological innovation, which it has led other companies in," he emphasized. He said that the labor shortage in the domestic market will become an increasingly important issue, and added, "We will popularize ICT construction machinery and use it to solve social issues."
The company positions Japan, the United States, and Europe, where infrastructure development is advanced, as "traditional markets," and China and Southeast Asia, which are in the process of growth, as "strategic markets." Imayoshi worked for Komatsu America from 1998 to 2004, and will lead the Chinese business as the general representative for China from 2021. He has extensive experience and knowledge in both markets through his approximately 12 years of overseas postings. As head of the business management department, he was also involved in formulating the company's medium-term management plan (FY2019-2021).
Ogawa said, "Management requires consistency and continuity," and cited Imayoshi's experience in both traditional and strategic markets as reasons for his promotion to president. "He is clever, calm and collected, and has an excellent ability to see things from a big picture perspective. I expect him to help Komatsu grow and develop even further with a different perspective than I do," he said.
