The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry decided on the 29th to implement a public offering for additional kilowatts (supply capacity) for the summer of 2023. The reason for this is that the reserve margin for July in the Tokyo area remains low at 3.0%, and uncertainty remains in both supply and demand, such as power supply problems and extreme heat. Supply capacity will be provided basically in July and August, but based on the lessons learned last year, we will prepare for a tight supply-demand balance during off-seasons.
On the same day, the Energy Agency presented this to the General Resources and Energy Advisory Committee (an advisory body to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry) Electricity and Gas Basic Policy Subcommittee (subcommittee chairman: Hirotaka Yamauchi, specially appointed professor at Musashino University).
