On the 17th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced that the national government will carry out the full restoration of the Kuma Ohashi Bridge on the Kakui Kazubu Route on Prefectural Route 262 in Nishikicho, Kumamoto Prefecture, which was damaged by Typhoon No. 14 in September 2022 and was closed to traffic. bottom. The request was received from Governor Ikuo Kabashima on the 13th, as advanced knowledge and technical capabilities are required. In fiscal 2011, we will compile a restoration plan, including bridge locations and bridge types. Minister of Foreign Affairs Tetsuo Saito said, "We will make the most of our on-site capabilities and make all-out efforts."
A local geological survey by the prefecture confirmed that soft soil was irregularly mixed in the supporting layer of the piers. The prefectural government judged that advanced technology was necessary for geological surveys during construction and design revisions based on the results.
The Kyushu Regional Development Bureau also provides technical support for emergency restoration to the prefecture, lending an emergency assembly bridge and supporting construction guidance and process management when installing the bridge. Since the temporary assembly bridge could not be handled by the Kyushu Development Bureau alone, we are seeking cooperation from the Shikoku Regional Development Bureau and using the bridges from both bureaus with the aim of resuming traffic on the 26th.
The Kuma Ohashi Bridge is 340.7 meters long and structurally constructed in 1957 as a Gerber girder bridge for the carriageway, and in 1977 as a PCT girder bridge. The bridge piers near the center were damaged, and the bridge girders were sunk.
