Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism / To develop CN model treatment plant / Intensive support with grants, recruitment until November 30

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will develop a "carbon-neutral (CN) regional model treatment plant" that brings together new technologies related to the decarbonization of sewage treatment plants. Existing treatment plants are selected through public offering, and intensive support is provided through subsidies for the introduction of energy-saving and energy-creating equipment. Create a model case of decarbonization and horizontally deploy it to sewerage administrators nationwide. Recruitment of treatment plants to be supported started on the 20th and is being accepted until November 30th.

The ministry has been promoting the development of energy saving and energy creation technology as part of the "Sewerage Innovative Technology Demonstration Project (B-DASH Project)". Demonstration projects are being developed to improve the efficiency of sewage treatment using AI and to produce solid fuel derived from sewage sludge. We will consolidate the results of these efforts into a small number of treatment plants and confirm the maximum effect when they are introduced in combination.

Public sewerage administrators with treatment plants or watershed sewerage administrators can apply. Applicants create a "CN regional model wastewater treatment plant plan" that looks ahead to the development details in the next 5 to 10 years. We call for a plan to realize CN by covering all the energy consumed in the treatment plant with energy-saving and energy-creating technology.
If the plan is applied to and registered with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, it will be positioned as a priority grant target for social infrastructure development comprehensive grants and disaster prevention and safety grants. Applicants are required to report the progress of their plans to the government once a year.

The policy for developing a model treatment plant was established in January by an external expert meeting held on the web, "Sewerage Policy Research Committee, Subcommittee for Considering How to Contribute to a Decarbonized Society" (Chairman: Keisuke Hanaki, Professor, Faculty of Information Networking, Toyo University). ).

Recruitment guidelines and application documents are available on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism website (https://www.mlit.go.jp/mizukokudo/sewage/mizukokudo_sewerage_tk_000786.html).
