UK Actis invests in renewable energy company in Japan, 1.1GW of solar and wind

     Actis, a UK-based investment and management company for sustainable infrastructure, announced on May 9 that it has established a $500 million renewable energy company, Nozomi Energy, in Japan. Aiming to invest in 1.1GW of onshore wind and solar power projects by 2027. Actis will invest in the project from its $6 billion energy fund.

    As the first investment project, we signed a contract to acquire Ergo Japan Energy (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) from Infrastratore, Italy. Ergo has over 230 MW of onshore wind in development and solar in operation, as well as a portfolio of early-stage projects. Mr. Minoru Saito, CEO of Ergo, will continue to work as vice chairman of Nozomi Energy and general manager of wind power business.

     The establishment of Nozomi Energy will employ a dedicated management team and promote a buy-and-build strategy. The management team will be led by José Antonio Milan Ruano, who has a total of 20 years of experience and track record, including over 11 years in the renewable energy business in Japan. He served as President and CEO of Hinode Energy.

     Actis has raised $25 billion since inception and manages over $15 billion in assets. The company's energy infrastructure team has invested in more than 70 renewable energy projects to date, with a cumulative total of approximately 12 GW of renewable energy generation worldwide, with the goal of adding another 12.5 GW.
