The first offshore wind turbine has been installed at Northland Power's 1GW Hai Long wind farm off the coast of Taiwan.
The wind farm is using Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14-222 turbine, which has a rotor diameter of 222 metres and a total height of over 230 metres.
With Power Boost, each unit can generate up to 15MW, making it one of the most powerful turbines installed in Taiwanese waters to date.
The milestone also marks a step forward for local manufacturing and engineering capabilities, said the developers.
The nacelle was assembled by Siemens Gamesa at its expanded facility in Taichung, which became operational in January 2024 to support Hai Long and serve as a regional hub for offshore wind in Asia-Pacific.
The Hai Long project partners said the turbine installation demonstrates effective collaboration between local and international players.
