Tohoku 6 Prefectures Promote 2-Day Weekend/Miyagi and Yamagata to Fully Implement Work Style Reform Advances in Public and Private Sectors

With less than a year remaining until the cap on overtime work with penalties will be applied to the construction industry, there is a need to accelerate work style reforms at construction sites. On the 6th, efforts for the 2023 fiscal 2023 "Five-day Weekly Spread Promotion Day," in which six prefectures in the Tohoku region will all be closed on Saturdays, will be set. Miyagi and Yamagata closed every Saturday and announced the full implementation of two days off a week. Attention should be paid to setting an appropriate construction period that takes into account two days off a week for all public works, including those ordered by municipalities.

The five-day workweek promotion campaign, which allows construction sites to be closed simultaneously on Saturdays, is being carried out in collaboration with the Tohoku Regional Development Bureau, the Tohoku Agricultural Administration Bureau, six prefectures, ordering agencies of municipalities, the Prefectural Construction Industry Association, and the Prefectural Federation of Construction Industry Associations.

Miyagi and Yamagata set Saturdays as closed days throughout the year. Aiming to fully implement two days off per week for public works within the prefecture.

In Iwate and Fukushima, in addition to closures on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, each company has decided to set ``closed four times a month''. In addition to the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, Akita also closed Saturdays in April and May. The target number of days for Saturday closures will be raised from the previous 24th to the 28th.

Aomori will add a 4th Saturday to the 2nd Saturday of each month to extend the closing days.

The Tohoku Development Bureau plans to conduct a trial of a "complete two-day work week model construction" in order to popularize and expand the two-day work week. The six prefectures and the city of Sendai have also announced plans to expand the number of construction days designated by the client to two days a week.
