The city planning proposal accompanying the establishment of the new station was approved as an initial draft. By running the subway through the eastern part of Osaka Castle, where the prefecture and the city are leading in urban development, it will improve accessibility and help promote development and create excitement, including in the surrounding area. The design of the branch line and the new station is scheduled to begin in fiscal 2025, with completion scheduled for fiscal 2027 and opening scheduled for spring 2028.

The branch line will be a single-track line connecting the new station with Morinomiya Station on the Osaka Metro Chuo Line. The length is 1,120 meters. The underground and above-ground lines from Morinomiya Station to the depot will be renovated and used as commercial lines. When it opens, a six-car train on the Chuo Line will run between the two stations every 15 minutes.
The new station will be located above ground at the north end of the Morinomiya garage/factory. The station area will be 3,500 square meters. The station structure will be one line per side and will be incorporated into the city plan. A station building is also planned to be built in the space above the new station.
The new station and branch line will be part of the “1st and 5th” development project on the eastern side of Osaka Castle, scheduled to operate until spring 2028.
The council added the Umeda 1-chome Chuo Ward (about 0.5 ha), which will be the development center of the former Osaka Maru Building combined with the reconstruction, to the Special Urban Revitalization District, and increased the floor area ratio of the district to 2000% (currently 1000%) was also approved. Along with the reconstruction of the Maru Building, we will revitalize the entire surrounding area by constructing a multi-purpose plaza (700 square meters), a three-dimensional pedestrian space connecting the underground and above ground, constructing an underground passage, and expanding and beautifying the area. sidewalk. The new Maru Building will inherit the circular exterior of the old building and is expected to be 192 meters tall, about 70 meters taller than the previous building.
