The Osaka Prefectural Government's Urban Development Department has decided on a design proposal for a new floodgate planned upstream of the Ajigawa Floodgate (Minato Ward, Osaka City). In December 2022, an interim report on the design of the new water gate was presented to the Osaka Prefectural Council for River Structures, etc. The design was brushed up based on the advice of experts, and the draft design was reported to the council on the 13th. It was decided to introduce a curtain wall for the upper and outer decoration, and the color of the metal members of the water gate body was decided to be light gray. Ribbed steel plate finish will be adopted for the surface of the shed (shock absorber). From now on, the prefectural government will steadily proceed with discussions on the land on the right bank necessary for the construction of the new floodgate, and prepare for the start of construction.

Downstream design (from the Osaka Prefectural Government website)
The prefectural government has been searching for a design for the new water gate that can express the symbol of safety and security and the gateway to the water metropolis of Osaka.
A curtain wall is used for the upper and outer decoration, but in order to change the impression on both the upstream and downstream sides, a metal panel was introduced on the upstream side, giving it a robust impression while maintaining its symbolic character. 'It's a plan.
We also decided to change the installation position of the water cannon between the gatepost and the shock absorber, to adopt vertical lattices to prevent falling pipes and mechanical equipment, and to adopt thinner fenders than the current floodgates.
The type of the new water gate is a pull-up roller gate (2 gates). In addition to storm surges, the structure will be designed to mitigate the damage caused by the assumed maximum class of tsunami (L2 tsunami). The scale is assumed to be about 30 meters wide and about 13 meters high.
The prefectural government is proceeding with a project to replace the three major arched gates in Osaka City (Kizugawa Floodgate [Sankenya Higashi, Taisho Ward], Ajigawa Floodgate, and Shirinashigawa Floodgate [Doseno]) into new floodgates. Leading the new water gate project. Following on from the Kizugawa River, a new water gate project for the Ajigawa River is launched. It shows a plan to complete the Aji River water gate reconstruction project by 2034.
