    Stakeholder groundbreaking

On the 19th, Miyagi Prefecture held a groundbreaking ceremony for the main body of the "Kawachizawa Dam", which will be built on the Kawauchizawa River, a class 1 river that flows through the cities of Natori and Iwanuma, located in the southern part of the prefecture. Construction is a joint venture between Nishimatsu Construction, Okuda Construction, and Green Planning Construction. Surveys started in 1997 with the aim of controlling floods, maintaining the normal function of running water, and preserving the river environment. After 26 years, construction of the main body has started. The total project cost is 13.5 billion yen. Aiming for completion in the spring of 2026.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by 60 people, including Shinya Endo, Vice Governor of Miyagi Prefecture, Shiro Yamada, Mayor of Natori City, and others related to the prefecture and city, Akihiro Nishimura, Minister of the Environment, and Masato Isshiki, Executive Vice President and Representative Director of Nishimatsu Construction. A hoe was put in, hoping for an accident-free, disaster-free and early completion of the construction work, and for improved flood control in the basin.
At the ceremony, Vice Governor Endo said, "The Kawauchi-Sawa River basin has suffered from frequent floods. The dam was planned in response to the heavy rain disaster of September 1994, and full-scale construction of the main body will now begin. The prefecture will also cooperate with the builder. We will work to ensure that construction progresses safely and steadily.”
Minister of the Environment Nishimura, who was the guest of honor, expressed his expectations for the project, saying, "The dam exerts great power in flood control in the basin. I hope that it will be completed as soon as possible in order to protect the safety and security of life in the region."
On behalf of the builders, Vice President Isshiki said, "Our company's corporate philosophy is to create a sustainable society and environment where people can live with peace of mind by providing valuable structures and services to society by making the most of our cultivated technology and experience. It's a project that matches the concept of "contribute."
The Sendaizawa Dam protects against floods and secures stable irrigation water for droughts that are thought to occur once every ten years. When completed, it will be a concrete gravity dam with a height of 39.7 meters, a crest length of 145.0 meters, and a total water storage capacity of 1.79 million cubic meters. Plans include 49,510 cubic meters of foundation excavation and 54,000 cubic meters of embankment concrete. Concrete production facilities and turbid water treatment facilities will be installed, and construction will be carried out while considering the environment. The foundation will be excavated in the future, and concrete will be placed in 2012. The construction period is until March 25, 2016. The detailed design is Yachiyo Engineering. The construction of a prefectural dam will be the first in 11 years since the Hoikawa Dam (Minamisanriku Town) was completed in May 2013.
The story of Director Tomonori Umezu (Nishimatsu Construction)
