◆ Effects of nuclear power activities, etc

JERA and eight utilities' fuel consumption in the first half of fiscal year 2023 (April to September) decreased for all four fuel types. LNG output is the lowest in the past 10 years, down about 40% compared to the peak of 27,476,000 tons (2012). This is due to an increase in the operating speed of nuclear power plants in Kansai and Kyushu, as well as a decrease in electricity sales at JERA. Coal prices are also at their second lowest level in the past 10 years.

LNG consumption decreased 5.6% year-on-year to 16,895,000 tons. This is the first time since the Great East Japan Earthquake that output has dropped to 16 million tons.
