In the "Togyoan Public Toilet Design Competition" held by Shimonoseki City, Yamaguchi Prefecture for young people under the age of 27, Kyushu University graduate school students Shogo Hayashida and Kotaro Nishimura proposed "Kawaya with borrowed scenery". ' was awarded the best work. The Excellence Award was given to Mr. Makoto Ochi (NAP Architectural Design Office) and Mr. Takuomi Samejima (freelance) for "Chozuya in the sunlight filtered through the trees." In addition, Mr. Kazuhiro Kuronuma, Mr. Junya Takatsuka (Yokohama National University), Mr. Hitoshi Takahashi, Mr. Tsukio Okada, Mr. Ryota Daidai (Yamaguchi University), Mr. Ryota Suzuki (MOUNT FUJI ARCHITECTS STUDIO), Mr. Moe Jumonji ( Nikken Sekkei) was selected.

Forty-six people have expressed their participation in the competition, of which 25 have submitted their works. In the judging, 12 of the 25 proposals were selected as works that passed the first judging, and in the second judging, 1 best work, 1 excellent work, and 3 winning works were selected.

The grand prize winner proposes “Kawaya with Borrowed Scenery,” which borrows the abundance of flowers and trees to create an interaction between nature and people. The judges commented, "The upper part of the façade is made of metal, has an uneven surface like a vertical lattice, and the lower part is finished like a lattice door. As a whole, it's a calm 'Japanese' building, but it feels modern." The concept was well-matched to the scenery of Togyo-an, which is also a temple," "The semi-transparent glass makes it possible to create a bright toilet that allows you to feel nature," and "The design shows the scenery."

In this project, we will build a toilet designed to be a symbol of the place associated with Shinsaku Takasugi, enhancing the convenience of visitors with a toilet that is easy for anyone to use. The purpose is to enhance the charm of the Togyo-an area. In the design competition, in the hope that it would lead to the discovery and training of the next generation of designers, the target of the proposals was for architects under the age of 27 or aspiring architects.
