Shimizu Corporation / Mountain tunnel lock bolt placement is completely mechanized, remote construction system construction
2 Boom lock bolt driving dedicated machine (from press release material)

Shimizu Corporation, in collaboration with Furukawa Rock Drill, has built a remote construction system that can completely mechanize the rock bolt placement of mountain tunnel construction. Introduced a "2-boom lock bolt driving dedicated machine" equipped with two lock bolt remote placing devices (bolting units). It was introduced for demonstration in the Maki Tunnel construction (Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture) on the Tokai Hokuriku Expressway ordered by the Central Nippon Expressway Company, and succeeded in completely mechanizing the driving work from drilling to mortar filling and lock bolt insertion.
2 The remote driving device equipped on the boom lock bolt driving dedicated machine integrates a drilling device, a mortar filling device, a lock bolt storage magazine, and a lock bolt pushing device. In the remote construction system, the operator remotely controls the two booms equipped with the device from inside the cabin, reducing the manual work directly under the face. Achieve complete mechanization of lock bolt placement.
In the casting work, the operation patterns of both booms were verified in advance by 3D simulation. Derive a construction plan that maximizes the casting efficiency of one cycle. At the time of casting, follow the navigation of the control panel in the cabin, and proceed with a series of equipment operations such as moving the boom, drilling holes, filling mortar, and inserting lock bolts.
During work, construction data such as drilling position, lock bolt insertion position, angle, and mortar injection amount are visualized in real time on the panel screen. Since the work can be performed by comparing it with the planned value, it is possible to improve the accuracy of the finished product and homogenize the construction quality.
In the demonstration construction, 13 lock bolts were placed in one cycle in 35 minutes. It was confirmed that the cycle time can be shortened by about 10% compared to the general construction method. The number of workers can be reduced to 3 for 5 general construction methods.
In the future, we will improve the effectiveness of remote construction using a 2-boom lock bolt driving machine through problem extraction and functional improvement, and develop it as a standard technique for mountain tunnel construction.
