Orix has 134MW grid storage battery, Toshiba factory has EPC

Toshiba Plant Systems (Kawasaki City) announced on November 25 that it has received an order for the construction project of the Maibara Koto Energy Storage Station, a grid storage battery, from Maibara Koto Energy Storage Station, an SPC (special purpose corporation) established by Orix.

The company will install 140 lithium-ion battery storage containers on a site of approximately 26,000 square meters in Maibara City, Shiga Prefecture, and build grid-connected battery storage with a rated capacity of 134MW and a rated capacity of 548MWh. Grid-connected battery storage typically secures profits by participating in the supply-demand adjustment market or capacity market, or by trading price differences through the wholesale electricity market.

This is the project that Orix submitted and won in the long-term decarbonization auction. The auction is a bidding system to encourage new investment in decarbonized energy sources, and in principle, OCCTO guarantees a fixed income for 20 years, ensuring long-term business profits. The company will start operating the power storage plant in 2022 and is developing power storage plants nationwide.

Toshiba Plant Systems will be responsible for EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) services as well as commissioning services for the project, with a target handover in November 2026. The group handles numerous EPC projects for renewable energy-related plants in Japan and the Southeast Asia region.
