On July 25, Tokyu Land Corporation announced that it will jointly operate a carbon-neutral biomass boiler (reducing atmospheric CO2) in Chino City, Nagano Prefecture, with Sumitomo Electric Industries. The event will be held at Tokyu Resort Town Tateshina, a resort owned by the company and operated by Tokyu Resorts & Stays (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo).

Tokyu Tateshina Resort Town conducts conservation thinning to reduce tree density in the forest from the perspective of disaster prevention and biodiversity. Starting in March 2020, a 260kW "Forest Biomass Boiler" with a capacity of 260kW was installed at Tokyu Tateshina Golf Course in the same town as part of an initiative to produce and consume energy locally. Heat from the boiler is used to heat the golf course's public bath.
CO2 absorption/solidification equipment
In this initiative, a CO2 absorption and fixation device manufactured by Sumitomo Electric will be installed in Mori's biomass boiler to achieve carbon reduction by absorbing and solidifying CO2 contained in the exhaust gas. Furthermore, since July 26, we have been supplying golf shirts, bottles and golf sleeves such as our original product ``CO2 Kotai Chaishita.'' made from recovered and solidified CO2.

Sumitomo Electric is working on commercializing the metal carbonate material "metacol" as a CO2 capture and resource recovery technology, and this is the first step in this effort. Metacol is a powder made from CO2 and metals such as iron and magnesium, which has been confirmed to have UV-reflecting and safety functions, and is said to have sufficient durability compared to plastic. The town's forest biomass boiler is said to be capable of producing about 0.5 kg of metacol per day.
