Keikyu Corporation and Mitsui Fudosan have signed an agreement to develop a resort hotel on the former site of Aburatsubo Marine Park in Miura City, Kanagawa Prefecture (1082 Koajiro, Misaki-cho). The agreement was concluded on October 3, and both companies will now begin detailed planning for the project. They aim to promote sustainable development in collaboration with the local community.

Aburatsubo Marine Park, once a major attraction, was closed in September 2021 due to aging facilities. Keikyu had been studying redevelopment options for the site. The location offers sweeping views of Sagami Bay and Mt. Fuji, making it ideal for creating a new resort area that will enhance the appeal of the Miura Peninsula.

The project will combine Keikyu’s expertise in area management rooted in the local community with Mitsui Fudosan’s track record in hotel and resort development both in Japan and abroad. Together, they aim to establish a symbolic resort hotel for the region.

Keikyu’s medium-term management plan, launched in fiscal 2021, lists the “Creation of Urban-Periphery Resort Miura” as one of its key initiatives, highlighting the company’s commitment to strengthening area management activities across the Miura Peninsula.

Opened in 1968 as a commemorative project for Keikyu’s 70th anniversary, Aburatsubo Marine Park was once home to one of Asia’s largest aquarium tanks and enjoyed global recognition. However, as the facilities aged and maintenance became increasingly difficult, the decision was made to close the park.
