    Kansai Electric Power and Sparx Launch Grid-Connected Energy Storage Projects in Mito and Hamamatsu

    On 25 September 2025, Sparx Group, Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., and JA Mitsui Leasing (Tokyo) announced the development of grid-connected energy storage projects in Mito City, Ibaraki Prefecture and Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. These projects follow the Sapporo City project announced in March.

    Plant Details:

    • SGET Mito: 50 MW / 175.5 MWh, expected commercial operation June 2029

    • SGET Hamamatsu: 30 MW / 110.3 MWh, expected commercial operation June 2028

    Investment & Operations:

    • Operated by SGET Mito Power Storage Plant LLC and SGET Hamamatsu Power Storage Plant LLC

    • Investors: Kansai Electric Power, JA Mitsui Leasing, Sparx Group

    • Storage batteries & PCS: supplied by Sunglow (China)

    • EPC services: Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (Toshiba ESS)

    Management & Operations Support:

    • SPARX Green Energy & Technology (SGET) provides development, financing, and operational support, optimizing returns through capacity markets, wholesale electricity trading, and demand-supply balancing.

    • Support services include battery operation & diagnostics from Kansai Electric Power, and electricity market operations from E-Flow (Kansai Group) via Kan-denchi, an all-in-one service for energy storage facilities.

    • JA Mitsui Leasing provides expertise in project development and finance.
