JWPA and others / International Offshore Wind Summit opens in Akita City, lectures and panel discussions in two days

The "Global Offshore Wind Summit Japan 2022" hosted by the Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA, Representative Director Hitoshi Kato) opened on the 9th at the Akita Arts Theater Milhas in Akita City = photo. On the same day, more than 700 people from 26 countries including Japan participated in the venue and online. The event will be co-sponsored by the World Wind Energy Conference (GWEC) and Akita Prefecture until the 10th. There will be 25 lectures and 6 panel discussions over the two days.
At the beginning of the opening ceremony, JWPA Vice President Yasushige said, "Being able to hold the event in Akita, which is at the forefront of offshore wind power generation, is a great opportunity for the locals to deepen their understanding." Takahisa Satake, Governor of Akita Prefecture, said, "We would like to achieve co-existence and co-prosperity with the fishing industry and the local community by leading to the entry of local companies and industrial clusters." A video message from Yasutoshi Nishimura, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, and Tetsuo Saito, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, was also shown.
JWPA Representative Director Kato explained the latest situation in his keynote speech and emphasized the necessity of market development, stating, "In order for offshore wind power to achieve stable operation as a main power source, it is necessary to establish a highly predictable and stable market." . He said, "The time has come for the country to draw up a persuasive introduction plan and move forward with a social consensus."
At the second venue, the Akita City Cultural Creation Center, there are various exhibitions and workshops on local themes.
The summit was held with the aim of sharing technical information among domestic and overseas offshore wind power industries and supporting the achievement of introduction targets. In Japan, it was held for the first time in Kitakyushu on October 7th and 8th, 2021.
