Cost reduction of offshore wind power generation

project overview
To achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, it is necessary to introduce renewable energy to the maximum possible extent. Offshore wind power generation is considered to be the trump card for making renewable energy the main power source because it is possible to introduce large amounts and reduce costs, and it is expected to have an economic ripple effect.
Up to now, the introduction of offshore wind power generation has expanded, mainly in Europe, but the Asian market is expected to grow rapidly through 2050. Especially in Japan and Asia, where the terrain is steep and deep, there is a growing need for optimization based on weather conditions such as low wind speeds, typhoons, and lightning strikes, as well as sea conditions.
Therefore, in this project, under certain conditions, the power generation cost of fixed offshore wind power generation will be reduced to 8 to 9 yen/kWh by 2030. Technologies that can be expected to reduce the power generation cost to 8 to 9 yen/kWh and floating offshore wind power generation at an internationally competitive cost level. We aim to establish the technology for commercialization. Based on the knowledge gained from the demonstration projects we have been working on, we will work to reduce the cost of offshore wind power generation, mainly floating wind power generation, at an early stage and expand their introduction.
Project features
〇 Technology development project for next-generation wind turbines
In addition to the technological capabilities cultivated in onshore wind power generation and the domestic manufacturing base, we will leverage Japan's strengths in production technology, quality control, and robotics such as factory automation to streamline and optimize the entire wind turbine value chain. We will promote technological development related to the optimization of wind turbine specifications, high-quality mass production technology for wind turbines, etc., with a view to collaborating with
〇 Floating type basic manufacturing and installation cost reduction technology development project
Utilizing Japan's strengths in shipbuilding technology and infrastructure such as docks, we will develop technology related to optimization of floating foundations and mooring systems, and development of low-cost construction technology in order to establish mass production technology for floating bodies ahead of the rest of the world. Promote.
〇Electric system technology development project related to offshore wind power
High-voltage dynamic cables, floating offshore substations, etc. to adapt to severe weather conditions such as typhoons and sea conditions such as swells, which are the characteristics of Japan and Asia, by utilizing the technological capabilities of domestic cable manufacturers that have secured a global competitive advantage. We will promote technological development related to
〇 Advancement of offshore wind power operation and maintenance
Using the smart maintenance technology developed for onshore wind power as Japan's strength, we will promote technological development related to advanced operation, maintenance and repair technology, monitoring and inspection technology, etc., with the aim of increasing the sophistication of maintenance, which accounts for more than 30% of the cost. .
〇 Demonstration project for floating offshore wind power
Since it is necessary to improve reliability and reduce costs through an integrated design that considers the behavior, performance, workability, and cost of the wind turbine, floating body, mooring system, and cables, Committed to reducing power generation costs, we will demonstrate the integration of related technologies as a whole system.
