    engine combustion zero emissions

A legendary Japanese brand has wanted to open a new stage in sustainable mobility and, curiously, has left aside the EVs that have given them so much success. Instead, it is now betting on a new type of combustion that does not pollute and has served to create the “impossible engine“. It has zero emissions, and 99% of what it expels is water vapor, something that no one understands and that has experts in shock (and saying goodbye to brands like Tesla, of course).

Yamaha has presented the “impossible engine”: Zero-emissions and combustion at the same time

Yamaha Motor currently manufactures vehicles on behalf of Toyota Motor Corporation, and it has been tasked with designing a new generation 5.0-litre V8 engine for automobiles that will operate on hydrogen as the fuel. The unit is derived from the identification of the 5.0-liter V-8 motor in the Lexus RC F luxury sport coupe.

It has variants regarding injectors, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, and additional inclusions. This V8 engine runs on hydrogen and can produce 450 horsepower at 6,800 r/min and 540 Nm of torque at 3,600 r/min. Yamaha started making hydrogen engines for automobiles about five years ago.

As a member of the hydrogen engine development team, the Takeshi Yamada from the Technical Research & Development Center’s Automotive Development Section began getting the feel of the depth of the potential of the powerplant as the development process continued, and this is the first zero-emission combustion ever seen.

Maybe the future is not EVs, but ICEs: Yamaha’s new hydrogen engine that changes everything

Hydrogen engines are theoretically capable of being carbonless, while people continue to enjoy the gratitude that comes from internal combustion engines. Yamaha Motor President Yoshihiro Hidaka said. As you know at this point, hydrogen engines have the potential to become carbon-free while reviving the spirit of the internal combustion engine.

The creation of hydrogen engines is part of Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd.’s firmdwide environmental initiative, striving for zero carbon emissions within the company’s Scope 3 by the middle of the current century. For sustainability improvement, the Company will remain committed to such tasks as promoting innovations that will help further research in the sphere of sustainability.

In November 2021, five vehicle manufacturers—Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Subaru Corporation, Toyota Motor, Mazda Motor and Yamaha Motor—announced that they would start discussions regarding the launch of cooperation in joint research aimed at exploring possible areas as for searching for ways to extend the possibilities of the internal combustion engines’ application.

What does Yamaha intend to do in the future? That’s how they will “boost” their hydrogen engine

A public presentation of the V8 hydrogen engine co-developed by Yamaha and Toyota was made at the announcement place. Hopefully, the subsequent cars from Toyota as well as other compound automotive makers will apply this enhanced hydrogen electrical V8 motor, so you will soon be able to see its performance on the roads.

Moreover, it has been speculated that this engine is part of the joint presentation that several brands made last May, when they announced to the world their hydrogen engines with which they intended to turn sustainable mobility around (although some also ran on methanol or ammonia, you will remember).

As you can see, this new Yamaha hydrogen engine opens the door to a whole new generation of zero-emission cars. However, in Japan, they suffer the same problem as we do in America: there are almost no refueling stations for this fuel and no wide network of workshops that know how to work with these vehicles. However, as you know, we refuse to speak of “experimental fuel,” as we think it is far from being so.
