Revision of fuel prices, some effect in curbing price hikes / Regulated tariffs, no long-term impact
On the 3rd, the Electricity and Gas Market Surveillance Commission's Special Meeting on Rate Systems discussed the recording period for fuel prices, including exchange rates, at the review of regulated rate increases for seven deemed retail electric power companies. Based on Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's instructions, it has been found that if the most recent three months (November 2022 to January 2023) are adopted, there will be a certain effect of reducing the cost of application. On the other hand, based on the fuel cost adjustment system, it was also confirmed that there would be no impact on the total electricity charges, even though the delay would occur.
