At the ceremony, Director-General Hiroyuki Fujimaki thanked Asakura City for its cooperation in the project and thanked the staff for their hard work. Although the branch office will no longer exist, as the Chikugo River Office and the Kyushu Development Bureau, we will continue to stand by everyone affected by the heavy rains in northern Kyushu."
Yuji Hayashi, Mayor of Asakura City, thanked the victims, saying, "They stood by the victims and visited us many times. Thanks to everyone's thoughtfulness, the distressed atmosphere of the victims gradually changed."
After the ceremony, a city-sponsored appreciation party was held, and Mayor Hayashi presented a letter of appreciation to Mr. Ochikugo River Office Director Yoshida. It was not an easy task for the staff because it was necessary, but everyone's support has been a great strength," he said.
In the disaster recovery project, the river project on behalf of the authority implemented improvement and restoration of a total length of about 14 kilometers of three rivers and improved prefectural roads. As a specific emergency sabo project, sabo dams were constructed at 30 locations, and emergency measures were taken at one location to prevent landslides. The estimated project cost is about 60 billion yen. The branch office was established in April 2018, and a total of 64 employees were involved in the project. In the future, the base will be moved to the Chikugo River River Office in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and the remaining projects will be completed.
