German Government Approves Hydrogen Acceleration Draft

On October 1, 2025, the German government approved a draft law to accelerate the development of hydrogen infrastructure, aiming to expedite the deployment of green hydrogen amid a sluggish market.

Key aspects of the draft law:

    • Simplified procedures: Hydrogen projects will be designated as "overriding public interest," facilitating faster approvals and reducing legal challenges.

    • Digitalization: Implementation of digital tools to streamline permitting and project monitoring processes.

    • Comprehensive scope: The law covers the entire hydrogen supply chain, including production, storage, transportation, and import facilities.

Economy and Energy Minister Katherina Reiche stated, "With the Hydrogen Acceleration Act, we are fundamentally simplifying procedures, digitizing processes, and ensuring more speed."
