Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs publishes second call for proposals under the funding guideline for international hydrogen projects

    Introduction
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), together with the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR), supports the implementation of projects for renewable hydrogen and its derivatives abroad, outside Europe, under a funding guideline. BMWE has now published the second call for proposals. German companies can submit project outlines by 18 December 2025.

The funding guideline for international hydrogen projects aims to build a global market for renewable hydrogen and consists of two modules. BMWE funding is provided under Module 1, focusing on the establishment of industrial production plants for renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as accompanying research projects (e.g., feasibility studies). This support promotes the use of German hydrogen technologies abroad and aims to prepare and implement import routes to Germany.

Through this funding guideline, BMWE specifically strengthens German expertise in hydrogen technologies in an international context. The focus is on German small and medium-sized enterprises – technology suppliers and project developers – in testing innovative international projects and establishing new markets. Funding of up to EUR 30 million per project is possible. Funding is subject to budget approval until the 2026 budget comes into effect.

On 13 October 2025, interested companies will have the opportunity to attend an information event about the funding guideline and available funding opportunities, as well as to ask questions.
